Edward Elgar’s stirring “Nimrod” is the ninth and most well known movement from his Enigma Variations. With all its fluctuating and dramatic dynamics, unresolved tension and moving climaxes it is clear why the English composer’s tune is so overwhelming to so many. This arrangement for brass quintet was first performed in Wells Cathedral, Somerset, UK at a special service commemorating the 100 years since the end of the 1914-18 war. Due to such positive reviews it has subsequently had repeated performances.
