After 34 years away from conducting brass bands in 2022 Paul decided to make a return to conducting them.  Brass bands and in particular Sevenoaks Town Band gave Paul his first opportunity to become a conductor aged just 19 when he became their Musical Director. Over three years he built the band up to full strength and saw the potential in the band with its own band room adjacent to the band stand situated on the famous Sevenoaks Green. Paul went on to take the band on a successful tour of France and become an integral part of music in the town. Sadly Sevenoaks Town Band no longer exists.

At the age of 21 Paul's professional career started to take off and due to the many musical invitations and demands Paul was unable to give time to his brass band conducting roots.

In 2015 Paul was delighted to accept an invitation to be the Honorary Patron for Wells City Band. In 2022 after 34 years Paul decided to evolve his musical career through new avenues deciding after exceptional service and success to leave his posts as Head of Brass and Head of Musical Performance at Wells Cathedral Specialist Music School. Wells City Band then invited Paul to become their conductor and artistic director a post he is delighted to still hold to this day. 

 

Keen to give back to the brass band world that gave him his first opportunities as a conductor Paul has expanded his conducting positions to become the conductor of both Crewkerne Silver Band and Chard Concert Brass. Both bands he conducted for over three years taking them to full membership and considerable success on the concert platform.

Although Wells City Band is the only brass band Paul currently conducts full time he has ,and continues to be guest conductor for many bands in Somerset and Dorset including among others; Burtle Silver Band, St Swithin's Band, Wincanton Band and Lyme Regis Band.
